Community honors veterans Monday

MILLEDGEVILLE —

The Georgia War Veterans Home will observe Veterans Day Monday with its annual parade, program and luncheon.

The observance will begin at 11 a.m. Guest speaker for the occasion will be Col. Richard Combs, USMC (Ret.). Ernie Simons of the Department of Veterans Services will deliver the welcome, followed by the invocation by United Hospice chaplain Peter Gibson. The Cadets’ Prayer will be led by cadet Chobi A. Young of Georgia Military College. GMC cadet Tori Spivey will lead the rendition of ‘God Bless America,’ followed by a proclamation read by Milledgeville Mayor Richard Bentley.

Marcia Henry and Wylene Bloodworth will lead ‘America, the Beautiful.’ There will be a demonstration by the GMC Drill Team and those passing in review include: the GMC Cadet Corps;  Baldwin High School NJROTC; Sons of American Revolution; and the Georgia War Veterans Home Veterans Platoon.

A highlight of the program each year comes when the veterans from GWVH pass in review. These men and women represent veterans of the Korean War, the Vietnam War and more current day conflicts in the Middle East.

Following the program, there will be a luncheon served to all participants. The community is invited to share in this important recognition of veterans.
