Victim in aggravated assault case improving

MILLEDGEVILLE — The victim in a Wednesday morning aggravated assault is in stable condition at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon, Milledgeville Police said Monday.

The woman was hospitalized after an MPD officer discovered her behind the counter of the family’s business, Video Bazaar, located on South Elbert Street. According to Hill, an officer found her unresponsive and severely injured. EMS was notified and arrived on scene shortly thereafter. It appeared that she had been beaten about the face, head, arms and midsection area with a baseball bat. The alleged weapon was found near the area where the assault is believed to have taken place.

Law enforcement was initially called to an Underwood Road address earlier in the day Wednesday regarding a family dispute between the victim’s granddaughter, 30-year-old Kristine McGhee, and another family member over property McGhee claimed was left to her by someone else in the family.

McGhee was advised that the disagreement was a civil matter and was seen leaving the residence.

State warrants were issued for McGhee’s arrest later in the day.

She was pulled over in her tan Toyota Corolla between 12:20 and 12:25 a.m. and arrested without incident Thursday following the extensive search for her whereabouts. A 911 call from a neighbor alerted police of McGhee’s car spotted leaving her residence. A Georgia College police unit initiated a traffic stop on Hancock Street once the car was identified.

McGhee is charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault and aggravated battery.
