Downtown cleanup this weekend

MILLEDGEVILLE —

The Milledgeville Main Street downtown cleanup will be held rain or shine Saturday after the event was postponed last month due to weather.

Cleanup will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. The original date for the event was Sept. 30.

Community volunteers are invited to take part in the Milledgeville Main Street Clean-up Day, a neighborhood event for families and community groups to get involved.

The event will consist of cleaning the alleyways and areas behind the downtown buildings. Volunteers will meet at the Milledgeville Main Street office located at 127 E. Hancock St. at 2 p.m. and are encouraged to bring gloves to the event.

Carlee Schulte, executive director of Milledgeville Main Street, said last month that she believes that the Milledgeville Main Street Clean-up Day will have a lasting impact on the community as a whole.

“Citizens are only asked to donate a few hours of their time to pitch in and help keep downtown Milledgeville beautiful,” Schulte said. “This effort will help to attract visitors and be another driver to support economic development in the area.”
