Baldwin County Democratic Committee meeting Nov. 12

MILLEDGEVILLE — The Baldwin County Democratic Committee will have its quarterly meeting 7 p.m. Tuesday Nov. 12 at the County Recreation Center Walter B. Williams Park location.

All interested citizens are encouraged to attend, so that they may discover what their local democratic party has to offer.

One special guest for the evening is Sheriff Bill Massee. The long serving law enforcement leader will detail the local and state challenges facing the department.

Past committee meetings guests include the likes of Baldwin County Commission Chairman Sammy Hall and state president of the AFL-CIO Union, Richard Ray.

County Democratic Committee Chairman Quentin T. Howell said welcoming speakers of any political affiliation helps attendees understand all the issues.

The group isn't just about politics. The local Democratic Committee continues branching out into community problems and solutions.

In addition to the informative speaker portion, the Democratic Committee will honor the late Dennette Odum Jackson.

Jackson, who passed away in February, was a trailblazer who served as the Milledgeville's first African American city councilwoman.

She served District 1 for 12 years starting in 1992. Her countless selfless acts drew the highest acclaim and praise.

Jackson recorded another historic first as the first African American president of the sixth district of the Georgia American Legion Auxiliary.

As a member of the Georgia Association of Black Elected Officials (GABEO), Jackson was also a chairman of the Oconee Community Service Board, president of the local AARP chapter and served on the Georgia War Veterans Home advisory council.

All county districts are represented through committee board or general members. Howell said the committee is the most diverse in the area boasting average meeting sizes near 100 folks.

“I'm pleased with the diversity of people, because that's what we are about,” the committee chairman said.
