Racism researcher speaks at GC Tuesday

Dr. Robert Bernasconi will explore different types of racism as he comes to speak at Georgia College Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.

Bernasconi is a professor of philosophy and is well-known for his studies on the way perceptions of racism have changed over time.

“Because racism seems to be constantly reinventing itself, attempts to define racism seem always likely to be frustrated and the opponents of racism must be ever more attentive to the way the powerful protect their interest,” said Bernasconi.

In the early 1990s, Bernasconi began to develop an interest in the concepts of race and racism, particularly in relation to the history of philosophy. In addition to writing many articles on race, racism, slavery, African philosophy and related topics, he has also edited and published primary materials relating to the themes.

Bernasconi received his doctorate from Sussex University and taught at the University of Essex, the University of Memphis and he is currently teaching at the Pennsylvania State University where he holds the Edwin Erle Sparks Chair of Philosophy.

The College of Arts and Sciences and the Philosophy and Liberal Studies Program invites students, faculty, staff and the public to the lecture in the Arts and Sciences Auditorium.

For more information on the lecture call Lorrie Smith (478) 445-5221.
