MILLEDGEVILLE —

Georgia College Choral Ensembles, under the direction of Dr. Jennifer Flory, will perform their concert “A Night at the Opera” Saturday, April 6 at First Baptist Church in Milledgeville beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Faculty and guest vocal soloists will be featured with the choruses and student instrumental soloists will accompany the Women’s Ensemble.

Dr. Wendy Mullen, the interim department chair for the music department, will serenade the audience during the performance of Verdi’s famous brindisi, from La Traviata. Other soloists include Flory, adjunct voice faculty members Dr. Andrea Mueller and Mr. Chris Rosborough, and guest soloist Nadine Cheek, professor of music and the music department chair at Wesleyan College in Macon.

“Preparing for this performance is an engaging and educational process since the students are singing in different languages spanning different musical eras from 1689 to 1954,” said Flory. “This is the second time I have used this theme. The first was my debut concert in Oct. 2005.”

The concert is free and open to the public and donations will be collected for the American Heart Association. The concert will be dedicated to the memory of Dr. Richard Mercier, former chair of the Georgia College Music Department. Dr. Mercier died March 1 of a sudden heart attack.

First Baptist Church is located at 330 South Liberty St. in Milledgeville.
