MILLEDGEVILLE — Amici in downtown Milledgeville is marking a quirky tradition this week, but a tradition that continues to benefit the less fortunate in the Baldwin County area.

The third annual “Show us your Cans” benefit kicks off Thursday as the eatery’s way of making sure the Christmas season is a little nicer for those who struggle for meals within the community.

“’Show us your Cans’ is an obvious play on words designed to get people’s attention.’ said Phillip Joiner, Amici business director and Milledgeville city councilman. “Funny things like this catch people’s eye and when they take a deeper look, they realize it’s an opportunity to donate canned goods to lend a hand to those in our community who need help. Our first two years doing this yielded nearly 800 cans. We were impressed at the amount of gracious giving.”

The canned food drive at Amici will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday and end at 2 a.m. Saturday. Those who donate at least three canned goods will receive a voucher for a holiday shot which can be redeemed any late night this week.

“Our under 21 patrons are encouraged to donate three or more cans and they will get a free soft drink of their choice.” Joiner said. “All canned goods brought to Amici this Thursday through Saturday will be given to the Milledgeville food pantry in an effort to help those in need during the holiday season.”
