Georgia College welcomes new provost

MILLEDGEVILLE — Georgia College welcomes Dr. Kelli Brown as provost and vice president for academic affairs.

As the chief academic officer, Brown will work with the president and campus administration to advance the mission of Georgia College.

“Student success is the main goal in higher education,” said Brown. “My role is to facilitate the ideas of faculty, students and staff and work to ensure we are providing the best resources and experiences possible for all.”

“There has been a solid foundation set here at Georgia College,” said Brown.” I hope to be able to continue to improve upon that as we work to enhance the university.”

Georgia College marks the fifth institution of her career. She has served as a faculty member and an administrator.

Brown has spent 26 years in higher education. She has been extensively involved in professional development including being named an American Council on Education (ACE) Fellow for the 2011-2012 academic year.

Through her ACE experience, she worked with a number of institutions and learned the value of a liberal arts education.

“With our designation as Georgia’s public liberal arts university, our students will graduate with not only a degree, but also with the experience and education to enter the 21st century workforce. We are preparing students better for an uncertain future, and we are preparing the next generation of innovative, creative, entrepreneurial, caring and thoughtful leaders regardless of the profession they chose,” said Brown. “I have been very impressed with the level of student engagement and the camaraderie of the faculty and staff here at Georgia College.”

Brown received her Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. She received both her master’s and bachelor’s degrees from The University of Toledo and her associate degree from The Michael J. Owens Technical College.

During her career, she has conducted extensive research on adolescent and school health, community and school health partnerships and social marketing and public health.

She and her husband Dennis moved from Gainesville, Fla., where she previously served as interim dean of the College of Health and Human Performance at the University of Florida.
