By March 26, all occupation tax licenses must be displayed at each place of business.
“After the March 22 deadline, we will send out past due notices and a 10 percent penalty will be affixed,” Rushin said. “Then they are given 30 days to take care of it, and after that code enforcement is given a list of those who have not complied and they will be cited.”
Occupation tax certificate renewals can be paid in person at the finance office in City Hall, located at 119 E. Hancock St., between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Bills can also be dropped in the drop box located beside the drive-thru window, or e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com. Another option is to mail payments to P.O. Box 1900, Milledgeville, Ga. 31059, or fax it to (478) 414-4011.
“We really encourage e-mailing,” Rushin said. “We used it last year for the first time and it was more reliable and quicker.”
For more information about renewing an occupation tax license, call the city of Milledgeville’s finance department at (478) 414-4006 or (478) 414-4010.
