Back to school giveaway Saturday

MILLEDGEVILLE — Tracy Harper Productions and Milledgeville Hyundai, in conjunction with other area donors and sponsors, are providing local parents a helping hand with school supply and uniform needs as the 2013-2014 academic year gets into full swing.

“I do this because I know a lot of parents are having a hard time. We’re helping families in the community and surrounding counties who need extra assistance,” Harper said. “God has allowed me to get sponsors to help parents that need help with their kids who are going back to school.”

The fifth annual back to school giveaway is slated at Milledgeville Hyundai on North Columbia Street, across from the Verizon Wireless store, Saturday from 9 a.m. until supplies run out.

Around 150 containers filled with various school supplies, including crayons, coloring books, glue, hand sanitizer and paper towels, will be available to kindergarten students. Middle and high school students will receive one of 500 bags filled with school supplies and uniform shirts as well.

“Last year we gave out 300 bags and this year we’re doing way more. People were standing in line at 6 o’clock in the morning before the giveaway started at 9 a.m., so people should come early this year,” Harper said. “I want to give a special thanks to Milledgeville Hyundai for being the sponsor and making this possible for the community and surrounding counties. I thank God for allowing this to happen. It’s not about me; He gets the glory out of this.”

Children must be present and accompanied by an adult to receive the free school supplies and uniform shirts.

For more information about the event call Harper at 478-454-7556.
