Velvet Elvis sweeps Taste of Milledgeville

MILLEDGEVILLE — Milledgeville Main Street and the First Friday Committee hosted the second annual Taste of Milledgeville, Friday, Sept. 6.

Taste of Milledgeville was home to a variety of restaurants throughout Milledgeville offering different food samples for Taste attendees to enjoy.

This year the Velvet Elvis swiped the competition by coming in first place in all three categories.

“I am very excited and honored to win all three categories. We were hoping to win one of the categories but all three is truly a blessing, so thank you to all that voted for us, my staff, and to everyone that participated,” Chris Howington, co-owner of the Velvet Elvis, said

Before the event kicked off, hungry Taste attendees came early to purchase tickets, and by the time the event started at 6 p.m. the downtown sidewalks were full of people ready to enjoy the samples provided.

The First Friday Committee allowed Taste attendees to vote on their favorite taste, presentation and restaurant of the year.

At last year’s Taste of Milledgeville, it was a close race with a different winner in each category. Velvet Elvis won Best Taste in 2012.

More than 2,500 tickets were sold during Taste of Milledgeville, making its second year a success.

Milledgeville Main Street and the First Friday Committee thank each and every restaurant that participated in the Taste of Milledgeville, as well as the community for supporting this event.

Without the community support it could not have been such a success. Main Street relies on the downtown restaurants to participate in this event as the biggest fundraiser to continue First Fridays throughout the year.

“First Fridays have really taken off and the community has come to expect fun and activity downtown during these events,” Main Street Director Carlee Schulte said. “We are so thankful to the participating retail stores and restaurants that stay open and support First Fridays.”
