Mobile Vet Center offers veterans resources

MILLEDGEVILLE — The Milledgeville Career Center at the Georgia Department of Labor hosted the Mobile Vet Center (MVC) Friday to provide veterans and their families information about resources, outreach, counseling and benefits to help them make readjustments back to civilian life.

Milledgeville resident and army veteran of the Gulf War TreSeur Felton stopped by the MVC to see what the 38-foot mobile counseling center was all about.

"This shows me that they care. Coming from a major metropolitan city to this small community, we veterans need this type of support. I feel love from my heart when I see this," she said. "There are still a lot of veterans on the streets, but by having this here, hopefully it will draw more people to get more help."

MVC is a service of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Macon office.

"Our biggest outreach is to find some assistance for folks coming back from combat situations," said Michael Catoe, MVC readjustment counseling tech after providing information to 12 veterans by noon Friday. "The suicide rate has been really high after [individuals] come back from combat, and we’re trying to address that."
