Winter weather advisory

ATLANTA — A hazardous weather outlook indicates a strong potential for rain and ice along central and north Georgia roadways. A wind advisory is also in effect for Baldwin County today through 4 a.m. Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service, drivers should be advised of possible hazardous road conditions resulting from black ice and possible light snow accumulations. Strong winds of 20 to 25 mph and potential gusts of up to 35 mph may occur across much of the state including central Georgia.

In north Georgia snow is a possibility. The National Weather Service early Thursday issued a winter weather advisory through Friday morning for Murray, Fannin, Gilmer, Union, Towns, Pickens, Dawson, Lumpkin and White counties. It says icy roads will be possible in the area, as well as accumulating snow at elevations of 1,500 feet and above.

In metro Atlanta, temperatures are expected to drop into the low 20s by early Friday.

Locally, sunny skies with highs near 44 are expected Friday and lows around 23. Highs for Saturday will be around 50 with a 20 percent chance of rain.
