Downtown deals at First Friday

Various downtown merchants are kicking off the new year by offering specials and discounts for after holiday shoppers during the upcoming First Friday event.

“This is a great time to grab some of those items you wanted during the holiday season at a discounted price or even treat yourself to a spa service with one of the great specials going on,” said Deana Thornton, assistant at the Milledgeville Main Street. “Some of the businesses are even offering up to 75 percent off their merchandise.”

Locals and visitors alike can catch some of the great deals from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday.

A few of the participating merchants include:

• Fields Photography and Framing: 25 percent off on a custom frame orders;

• The Lemon Tree: 75 percent off holiday items;

• Hairbar: 10 percent off a product with a purchase of a service;

• Charmed Spa and Salon: 15 percent off a pedicure;

• Sun Studios: $19.95 for regular bed visits; and

• The Whimsy Willow: 10 percent off jewelry and scarves.

“We like for people to shop local, so we encourage downtown businesses to offer sales and discounts,” Thornton said. “We want to make sure the money stays in Milledgeville where it belongs.”

The First Friday initiative began February 2011 as a way to provide the community a day full of socializing, shopping, entertainment and an opportunity to appreciate local creative talent. Each month since, the First Friday project has continued to draw attention to the city’s historic downtown district by recognizing local artists’ talent through different themes.
