School bus shot with pellets

MILLEDGEVILLE —

A school bus driver received a potentially harmful scare Wednesday afternoon when shots hit the vehicle.

Luckily, it was just pellets, but the incident led to two arrests and serious charges.

The Milledgeville Police Department responded to the 1400 block of Forrest Hill Drive in reference to shots being fired at a school bus at 3:28 p.m.

Officers arrived moments later to find the driver visibly shaken, but not injured. The driver stated that as she traveled past a residence she heard the window near her head shatter.

“We could visibly see that some sort of small projectile had caused the damage to the windows. A couple of small pellets were found in the roadway, behind the bus,” Maj. Reginald Hill with MPD said. “The driver didn't know where the pellets were fired from, nor could give a description of the suspects.”

Neighborhood witnesses were able to give the police valuable information about the incident. It was reported that the suspects had been walking up and down the road, shooting at houses in the area. The suspects fired at the bus before running inside the residence located at 1454 Forrest Hill Road.

Officers surrounded the residence and attempted to lure the occupants outside, according to Hill.

“After several minutes of knocking, a male subject opened the door. He was detained as the residence was cleared for officer safety,” Hill said. “A female was also detained from inside the residence. After further investigation, another male was found inside the residence after hiding from officers.”

A 16-year-old male was charged with aggravated assault and criminal interference with government property.

The other male, identified as 18-year-old Austin Trease, was transported to the police department and charged with aggravated assault, criminal interference with government property and obstruction of officers.
