MILLEDGEVILLE — Slater’s Funeral Home gave away 55 turkeys to families in need Monday at Johnnie McDade’s Grocery.

Milledgeville resident Sheronica Deese felt blessed to receive a turkey as she celebrates Thanksgiving with her two children.

"I appreciate it a lot," she said. "A lot of families are needy and I’m very thankful for my free turkey."

Slater’s Owner Floyd Griffin said the local business has helped families for the past several years.

"There are people here in our community that are truly in need. We have an obligation to give back to the community since we are blessed," he said. "This is our way to give back to families on Thanksgiving."
