Belk Charity Sale supports local nonprofits, schools

MILLEDGEVILLE —

The Milledgeville Belk is gearing up for its semi-annual Belk Spring Charity Sale to benefit 20 local nonprofit organizations and area schools during the private, four-hour event.

Slated from 6 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Charity Sale tickets are available from all participating organizations and Belk stores for $5 each. Tickets can be purchased at Belk up to the day of the event with all donations equally divided among participating charities and schools.

Each ticket will admit shoppers to the store and entitle them to merchandise discounts ranging from 20 to 70 percent on purchases throughout the entire store, including special savings on rarely discounted brands. Customers will also receive $5 off their first purchase of $5 or more.

“We recruit charities throughout the community to participate in this event. They keep all proceeds from their ticket sales,” said Myra Dumas, Milledgeville Belk store manager. “During last season’s Charity Sale, which was in November, we had a few more charities participate than we do now. But the sale is always successful, and we’re able to help out nonprofits in the community. It’s Belk’s way of giving back.”

The first 100 customers in every Belk store on the morning of the event will receive a free Belk gift card ranging in value from $5 to $100, and a chance to win one of three $1,000 Belk gift cards awarded company-wide. All participating charities and schools will be registered to win one of three $1,000 donations from Belk in a company-wide drawing.

“For customers unable to come Saturday morning, they can come this week and pre-select their merchandise,” Dumas said. “Items can be picked up anytime after the sale.”

Participating organizations and schools in this season’s sale, including Mothers Against Crime, Sinclair Christian Academy, Georgia’s Old Capital Museum, Experience Works, Century Band & Trust Relay for Life Team, Milledgeville Kappa League, Georgia College Early College, LOVE for Haiti, Oconee Regional Humane Society, Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Women, Milledgeville-Baldwin County Habitat for Humanity, Morris-Little American Legion Auxiliary Unit 006, Oak Hill Middle School PEARLS, Boy & Girls Club of Baldwin and Jones Counties, Secret Petals Female Motorcycle Club, Crooked Creek Community Association, Central Georgia Cystic Fibrosis Walk, Believers in Broadcasting, Calvary Baptist Church and Freewill Fellowship Baptist Church Youth.
