Census hiring for 2010 team

From staff reports
The Union-Recorder

If you are looking for a job that is close to home, has paid training, flexible hours and good pay, then a 2010 Census job may be right for you.

Every 10 years a census of our population is conducted. The results help determine how federal funds are spent in the community on projects like roads, parks and other public services. The census also helps determine government representation. As a census taker, you will be able to make sure everyone in your community is counted.

Conducting the census is a huge undertaking, and it requires a wide variety of positions. For the 2010 Census, thousands of census takers are needed for temporary jobs. These employees will update address lists and conduct interviews with community residents. Most positions require a driver’s license and use of a vehicle.

Census jobs pay competitive wages based on current area pay rates. Census workers are also reimbursed for authorized expenses such as mileage.

The next testing dates and sites are:

— Monday, Nov. 2, at 10 a.m. at Tri-County EMC in Gray

— Monday, Nov. 9, at 10 a.m. at the Milledgeville Career Center

Two forms of ID are required.

Census job schedules include 20 to 40 hours of work per week and range in days of the week worked and times of the day. Applicants who take the employment test will make up the pool that will be used to select employees. The test checks clerical skills, reading, number skills, interpreting and evaluating alternatives and organizational skills. The test is approximately 30 minutes in length.

To take the test you must come to a testing center with two correct forms of identification. For a complete list of acceptable identification documents, visit www.2010censusjobs.gov.
