The local sights and sounds of fall quite possibly wouldn’t be complete without the Oconee Area Fair, which opens later today at Walter B. Williams Park.

Presented by Milledgeville Exchange Club, the Oconee Area Fair kicks off at 6 p.m. Wednesday and will continue through Sunday night.

Tickets are $5 at the door and $3 in advance through pre-purchased tickets, available at area banks and other locations throughout town, according to Exchange Club president Stacey Long.

“There are a few other choice places that you can purchase them,” said Long.

Tickets are available at Exchange Bank, Century Bank, Choo-Choo Build-It Mart and Complete Auto Care among other locations.

The fair also has three new rides this year, all of which are expected to draw the eye of local fair-goers.

“We are also going to have new attractions set up in the gym,” said Long.

Also this week, there will be Halloween festivities running through the weekend, and Saturday, the Georgia Military College Prep and Oak Hill Middle School bands will perform. Macon-based group Citizens of Heaven will also be on hand on closing night.

This year, arm bands will be available every night, unlike in previous years as an added draw.

All of the new added features will coincide with the usual rides, petting zoos, food booths and games associated with the Oconee Area Fair that local patrons have come to know and enjoy, according to Long.

“We think that the public keeps coming back because it’s a local clean and family-friendly environment,” said Long. “The money raised through this fair profits the Exchange Club mission of child abuse prevention and awareness.”

Sponsors for this year’s fair include Central Insurance, Exchange Bank, Century Bank & Trust, Central Georgia Battery, Country 102.3 FM, Z-97 FM, Chick-fil-A, The Union-Recorder, Roc’s Cork Shoppe, Choo-Choo Build-It art, Cheryl Williams CPA and Complete Auto Care.

The Oconee Area Fair will be open from 6 to 11 p.m. tonight through Thursday, from 6 p.m. to midnight Friday and from noon to midnight Saturday.
