The feel of Fall has arrived in the area and is accompanied by the annual Pumpkin Patch fundraiser at Milledgeville’s First United Methodist Church.

Hundreds of pumpkins of all shapes, sizes — and even colors — have been at the church located on Log Cabin Road and will be available until Saturday, Oct. 31.

Complimenting the pumpkins and fall flowers that are for sale at the annual church fundraiser are scarecrow displays that Pumpkin Patch visitors can vote for.

“Different Sunday School classes designed scarecrow scenes,” volunteer Betty Powers said.

Scarecrow displays range from Harry Potter to angels to an unfortunate bike accident involving a large bale of hay.

“This is one you’ve got to see,” Powers said. “We have a scarecrow family on a picnic.”

As always, the Pumpkin Patch has been a favorite spot of young school children who come in, enjoy the fall event and even take time out for a story or two. They are seated on a bale of hay while a volunteer story-teller from the church shares with them. Hundreds of pre-school children were expected through the patch.

“We are expecting more than 500 students by Oct. 28,” volunteer Kevin Prestridge said.

The Pumpkin Patch opens at 9 a.m. and will be open until 7 p.m. On Saturday, Oct. 31, the event will open at 9 a.m. and close at noon.
