Field trip requests top tonight’s BOE agenda

The Baldwin County Board of Education will have a list of fundraisers and field trips atop the agenda at today’s regularly scheduled meeting.
Baldwin High School has requested the approval of the following fundraisers:
— NJROTC doughnut sale, Sept. 15-19;
— NJROTC Coke product sale, Dec. 1-12;
— Cheerleader jewelry and spirit items sale, Sept. 15 - May 30, 2009;
— BHS Junior and Senior classes to raise funds throughout the school year to offset a trip to London, England;
— BHS Basketball Boosters Greek Step Show Sept. 27;
— FCCLA pocketbooks, shoes, accessories and jewelry sale, Sept. 27;
— Student council Homecoming Dance, Oct. 3;
— Cultural Coalition bake/candy sale Sept. 10 - May 15, 2009;
— BHS Girls Basketball Team gas card ticket sale, Sept. 10 - May 15, 2009;
— BETA Club car wash at Chili’s, Sept. 20;
— BETA Club donation collection, Sept. 15-26 for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital;
— Sophomore and Junior Academic pizza by the slice, Sept. 15 - May 22, 2009;
Creekside Elementary has requested approval for the art department to partner with First Art Works Co. for an exhibition and fundraising event where student artwork may be purchased.
The Early Learning Center would like to promote enrollment in the Kroger Plus Card program so that purchases will be credited to the ELC program and the ELC’s contribution percentages from Sept. 10 - May 31, 2009.
Midway Elementary has requested approval of the following fundraisers:
— A Fall Festival to be held later this month;
— A Jaxco Brochure sale in October;
— A Secret Santa Shop in December;
— A Jaxco Cookie Dough Sale in Spring 2009;
— A 5th Grade Memories CD and book fairs;
— A Coke products sale;
— A Y-Tie shoelaces sale;
— A movie night in January of 2009 to purchase equipment for the drill team;
— A Relay for Life Team dress down tickets sale one day per week for the school year;
— A Relay for Life Team would like to have students purchase and submit a guess on the number of pieces of candy in a designated container;
— A Relay for Life Team sale of suns, moons and footprints with loved ones’ names on them in Spring of 2009.
— Relay for Life Team movie nights September through April 2009;
— Relay for Life Team bows sale in March and April 2009;
— Relay for Life Team hat day, tacky day, decade day, career day and school spirit day in April 2009;
— Relay for Life Team to solicit businesses for donations in drawings in October;
— A Relay for Life Team Valentine candygrams sale in February;
— Midway’s Art Club framed student artwork sale;
Oak Hill Middle School has requested approval of the following fundraisers:
— OHMS ACE class T-shirts sale;
— OHMS Technology Student Association doughnut sale;
The Baldwin County Fine Arts Department has requested approval for a fundraiser to present “Carols and Candlelight,” a joint presentation by the Baldwin County Fine Arts Department and the Baldwin Band Parents Association. The event is scheduled for Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. at Braves Field. In preparation, students would like to sell tickets to the production, cast T-shirts, logo buttons and concessions on the night of the
performance.
The board will also vote on field trips for Oak Hill Middle School and Baldwin High School.
The board will also listen to a performance by the Baldwin High School Chorus during Tuesday’s meeting. The chorus will consist of 50 students, representatives from two choirs. The full chorus has 120 members. The chorus will perform the songs “Seasons of Love” from the Broadway show “RENT” and “Night Fever.” Cathy Carrol is the new choir director at Baldwin High School.
The board will also recognize regional winners of awards from the Young Georgia Authors and will present Georgia Accreditation certificates to
principals.
The board will review and approve financial reports, and will pay Notification Technologies $9,921.70 for renewal of the school system’s automated, emergency calling system.
Superintendent Dr. Troy Journigan will also report to the board on the Sales and Use Tax period that ended August 31.
The board is set to approve a request from the BHS NJROTC for use of portions of the school for a sanctioned drill meet on Nov. 8.
