Saturday, Aug. 23

11 a.m. to 7 p.m.: An old fashioned all-day barbecue dinner from Kinderhook BBQ will be held at The Hut on West Marion Street in downtown Eatonton. The barbecue is sponsored by the Putnam County Democratic Party and will feature guest speaker Commissioner of Labor Michael Thurmond. Forms for those not registered to vote in the November General Election will be available. Campaign literature from democratic candidates throughout Georgia can be picked up. Take out or dine in plates will be ready beginning at 11 a.m. A donation of $10 includes the plate of BBQ, slaw, beans, bread, cake and tea and attendance at the evening program starting at 7 p.m. For further information please call (706) 816-6010 or (678) 773-2338.

Monday, Aug. 25

Noon to 4 p.m.: Harriet’s Closet, a free supply closet to help fill the needs of cancer patients, is open in Room 413 of Oconee Regional Medical Center. A free Mary Kay consultation is available for cancer patients during Closet hours by appointment only. Carol Griffin (478) 453-0295.

4 to 5:30 p.m.: Straight Street Ministries House of Ananias, Inc., 201 Martin Luther King Dr., hosts a free after school homework assistance program during the school year for students in grades 1st to 5th. Call (478) 453-3247.

5:30 p.m.: Milledgeville-Baldwin County Development Authority meets in the Chamber of Commerce office.

6 p.m.: The Bicycling Club of Milledgeville meets in the parking lot behind Oconee Outfitters for its weekly road ride. Beginner pace for first hour, moderate pace later.

6 p.m.: “The Mourning After” a bereavement group sponsored by Hospice Care Options and the GCSU Psychology Department is held in room 1-15 in the GSCU Arts and Sciences Building. The event is free and open to the public. (478) 453-8572

7 p.m.: BINGO is held at the American Legion on Log Cabin Road. No one under the age of 18 is permitted. Refreshments are sold by the Ladies Auxiliary. (478) 452-8538

7:30 p.m.: The Oconee River Buskers Square Dance Club meets at the Walter B. Williams Recreation Center. Round dancing begins at 6:30 p.m.

7:30 p.m.: Milledgeville Jaycees meet at Walter B. Williams Jr. Park.

Tuesday, Aug. 26

9 to 11:30 a.m.: MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) meet at Hardwick Christian Church, 113 Thomas St., in Hardwick. MOPS is designed to encourage mothers of children ages 0-6 years old with relationships, resources and leadership. (478) 251-1532 or (478) 452-1125 or www.MOPS.org
