Basket maker Jessica Pitts will conduct a beginning pine needle basket making workshop in Milledgeville from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Allen’s Market Building, 101 W. McIntosh St. Participants will complete one coiled pine needle basket. All supplies will be provided. Registration is $50. Call Allied Arts at (478) 452-3950 for a registration form or more information.

Georgia’s Old Capital Museum presents local artist Stan Strickland at 7 p.m. for its March Historical Lecture in the restored Legislative Chamber of the Old State Capitol building on the Georgia Military College campus at the corner of Jefferson and Greene. Stan J. Strickland has established himself as an ambassador of the Old South and chronicler of life in mid-19th century Georgia through his works. Georgia’s Old Capital Museum Society pleased to host this program where Strickland will discuss the historical aspect of his subject material. Several of his works will be available and Strickland will be happy to sign your purchase. Stan is generously donating a portion of the proceeds to Georgia’s Old Capital Museum Society. Cultural Connection along with Georgia College & State University Continuing Education Department host a community celebration of Black History, “Building the Bridge to a Brighter Future”, at 7 p.m. nightly at GCSU Russell Auditorium. The program features historical skits, cultural dance interpretation, praise dance, stepping, gospel singing, hip hop, and an outreach across the nation of Russia. Basket maker Jessica Pitts will conduct an intermediate pine needle basket making workshop in Milledgeville from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Allen’s Market Building, 101 W. McIntosh St. Participants will learn three new fancy stitches as well as how to incorporate walnut slices, beads and other items into the construction of the basket. Intermediate level students must have taken Jessica’s beginning level class or have previous experience working with basket coiling techniques. All supplies will be provided. Registration is $50. Georgia’s Old Capital Museum hosts “Norvell becomes Ollie; the making of a star in Milledgeville.” This exhibit examines Norvell Hardy’s formative years in Milledgeville from 1903 to 1913 from his arrival as a shy 11 year old to his departure as a striving young actor. Taking his father’s name, Oliver goes on to become “Ollie” as part of the famous (Stan) Laurel & Hardy comedy team. The exhibit is free and open to the public and is located at Georgia’s Old Capital Museum, Old Capital Square at Greene and Jefferson Streets in the historic district of Milledgeville.
