Tea Party Patriots urge end to fear-mongering over cuts

The Union-Recorder

MILLEDGEVILLE —

The Milledgeville Area Patriots chapter of Tea Party Patriots, the nation’s largest tea party organization, are calling on our Congressman and Senator’s to uphold the sequestration law passed by Congress and signed by the President.

For decades Washington, D.C., has placed an unfair burden on future generations by over-spending without any consequence. The sequester cuts are a small step in the right direction, but a far cry from getting our nation’s debt under control. Now many members of Congress, the President, and government agencies are fear-mongering in order to scare us into opposing their sequester cuts. Why? So government can keep over-spending even more, instead of doing what they said they’d do: cut over-spending. That’s why we are calling Congressman Paul Broun, Sen. Saxby Chambliss and Sen. Johnny Isakson to tell them that we want them to stop the shameless propaganda and to do their job.

Even with the so-called “sequester cuts,” total spending will increase from year to year, from $3.55 trillion in FY2013 to $3.6 trillion after sequester, to over $4 trillion in 2016. Up does not equal down, and the sequester does not equal a cut in overall government spending. Members of both parties and President Obama continue to assert that the “cuts” this year will total $85 billion, but that claim has proven to be false. CBO numbers show that the total decrease in outlays will only come to $44 billion. American families have already given more by way of tax increases — one of many broken promises from Washington, D.C. Now it’s time for government agencies to cut back a portion of their budgets — after all isn’t that what the President’s “balanced approach” was supposed to look like?

Younger generations shouldn’t be forced to unfairly bear the burden of today’s over-spending and debt. We call on the political class in Washington to stop the scare tactics, and to take the first step toward ending their addiction to over-spending by upholding their own sequester law.
