NEW-DIAZ: Volunteers lauded for Special Olympics support

The Union-Recorder

MILLEDGEVILLE — This is my thought for all of you who came out to volunteer for the 2014 Special Olympics games, held April 9. I have served as Baldwin County Special Olympics Coordinator for over 30 years and my athletes are my heart. Your hard work and years of dedication affect more than you realize in the athletes lives.

We had a great day for the games. The key to the success of Special Olympics is people like you, who embody the spirit of greatness by saying, ‘Yes I can.’ I would challenge any program in the state to say they have better volunteers than Baldwin County. Most of my volunteers have been with me for 10, 20 and, yes, even over 30 years. I want to tell you that it is true, I’m grateful for volunteers like you.

I would like to thank the following: Georgia Military College Junior Beta Club and Color Guard, Baldwin High School Band, John Milledge Academy Anchor Club, Baldwin County Fire Department, Mr. Rusty Kidd, Triumph Aerospace, Knights of Columbus, Masonic Lodge No. 159 PSA, Century Bank, Department of Juvenile Justice, Diego Diaz, Tommy Curry, SD Harper, The Union-Recorder, Z97, County 102, the Baldwin Bulletin and others individuals who volunteered in the community.

I would also like to thank the agencies that came out to participate in the games: Oconee Center, Craig Center, CSH, Life Enrichment Center and the Wilkinson County Service Center.

Again, the gift of your time is priceless. Again, I thank you all on behalf of my athletes and myself.

See you next year,

Shannon New-Diaz
