Thank you for sponsoring Weight Loss Challenge

The Union-Recorder

MILLEDGEVILLE — I would be remiss if I didn’t recognize and submit kudos to our caring Milledgeville businesses that sponsored the recently completed “2012 Weight Loss Challenge.” The participants numbered some 30 individuals, couples, entire families and some members who participated in last year’s event.

During the period of early January thru April 3, 2012, which is 84 days, these individuals lost a combined 367 pounds or an average of 12 lbs per person. This may seem minute; however, if the period were extended for another 84 days, the weight loss could easily have doubled for an average of 24 pounds per person in less then six months — a challenge anyone would be proud to have met.

Although only 30 individuals registered this year, it is impossible to determine just how many other Milledgeville area residents were inspired during the weekly weigh-in press coverage and challenged themselves to the same weight loss program. Estimates are approximately 35 percent of Americans suffering from obesity and other illness as a result of being overweight.

Milledgeville business leaders have demonstrated they care about our residents, and as a result, many of us are on track to better health individually and/or have inspired many others, unknown, to do the same.

Thank you, Union-Recorder, Dr.C. Nolan Stephens, Belk’s Modern Southern Style, Southern Tire and Brake, Jeanie’s Flower and Gift Shop and Fitness Plus Health Club. Your demonstrated leadership makes all of us winners.
