Thank you for all of the help after the house fire

MILLEDGEVILLE — A year has passed since my mother’s condo was struck by lightening on Lake Sinclair. It was a very scary and emotional night and morning for her as well as our family. There are many people who came to our aid immediately to help salvage her beautiful furnishings. The efficiency of the fire department was able to save her cat Frisky. Then money spent on the fire boat was a blessing.

Once the fire department left the place, Larry and I began removing items immediately. We knew we needed to help, and Merritt came to our rescue to take all of the furnishings, books  and lamps to try and save as much as possible. They worked tirelessly and efficiently. It was a miracle that we saved so much. Merritt was able to clean the carpets and get the smoke smells out of the furniture so Jeff Gamble could begin restoration.

Thanks to Sha-Ron Hurt, things look better than they did before the fire. He reupholstered all the furniture and did a beautiful job working with Jeff and Merritt on logistics. Merritt also stored all of her things until she moved back into her new condo. I can’t give enough praise for those businesses that helped us in such a time of crisis.

Carol and Emily Grant Vance from JC Grant were there that morning getting all mother’s silver, crystal and china and to get it to Grant jewelers to be cleaned and checked for damage. They not only cleaned but inventoried it all and packed it up in boxes for when it was to be moved back into the condo.

Protective Cleaners was there immediately that morning and got all of Mother’s clothing and linens to the store to put into an oxygen chamber and then cleaned. Winn said later he really had a work out with all those clothes.

A magnitude of friends also showed up to help us to get things out and bring food and offer emotional support. Shane Robbins, the contractor, was there and helped so much with keeping things going. We were able to all go into the condo next door to get out of the weather and be with the other neighbors who were affected by the fire. Shane also rebuilt the condo and always had mothers input as to how she wanted it done. Now she is able to fully enjoy it.

Bobby Brown Insurance needs a special thank you because they made the process so easy for mama. Total efficiency, and we appreciate the hard work from Lisa.

The public needs to know that we have very competent people here to handle major disasters. We are so pleased and happy that we had such wonderful support.
