RICKMAN: Fair coordinator thanks contributors

MILLEDGEVILLE — On Feb. 6, Middle Georgia CARE-NET, a collaborative of The Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving, held a care fair at the First Baptist Church of Milledgeville. Middle Georgia CARE-NET is a group of volunteers dedicated to being facilitators for family and professional caregivers. Our main goal is to link them with available resource, education and support, so they can more effectively fulfill their caregiving duties.

Several businesses and agencies provided support for the event including: Middle Georgia Regional Commission - Area Agency on Aging; Alzheimer’s Association of Central Georgia; Evercare Hospice; Heartland Hospice; Exchange Bank of Milledgeville; Century Bank and Trust; Magnolia State Bank; Gordon Drugs; Chaplinwood Health and Rehabilitation; TenderCare Clinic; Charmed Spa and Salon; Moore’s Funeral Home; Oconee Regional Medical Center; Savannah Court of Milledgeville; Amedysis Home Health; River Edge Behavioral Health Center; Veteran’s Administration; National Alliance on Mental Illness; Georgia Legal Services Program; Pilot Club of Milledgeville; Georgia Cares.

Dr. Chesley Mercado of Georgia College Music Therapy Department provided a demonstration of how music can relieve stress. Dr. Kelly Massey of Georgia College Center for Health and Social Issues provided helpful advice on how stress affects the body and how better to handle our stressors. Special thanks to First Baptist church of Milledgeville for allowing us to use their fellowship hall and to Lynn Futch of Chaplinwood Health and Rehabilitation, who is also coordinator of the Baldwin County Healthcare Coalition.
