WIGGINS: City and county resident talks unification

MILLEDGEVILLE —

As a long time resident of Milledgeville, my work has afforded me a pleasant life. I have a house in the city and a house in the county, I can say that my house in the county is cheaper to own than the one I have in the city. Property taxes are higher, my water and power cost more and also my trash collection. It is very visible that you are in the city when you go to pay your city water bill downtown; they are some of the rudest people in the whole city.

I’ve been reading the letters to the editor lately and how the push is for unification by the very same people that wanted all the residents to pass the T-SPLOST tax or highway tax. Well it didn’t pass and I have more money in my pocket because of it!

I would like the people of Baldwin County to vote on this unification plan only to see it fail because they like me like keeping my money in my pocket.

I see the unification plan working only in large cities like our neighbors in Macon, to the north in Athens. If these very same people that are trying to force unification upon us would spend their energies on rebuilding our town with the factories and jobs that have left we would have a better place to live. Once this issue falls on its behind, then I’m sure something else will come up. I for one will vote “no.”
