WEBB: We have allowed an unethical atmosphere to creep into our government

MILLEDGEVILLE —

New Motto for the City of Milledgeville: “Not only do we believe in RETALIATION, we practice RETALIATION.”

Maybe this should be on our city seal or on a sign above the major corridors leading into OUR city. What a great message for economic development. After all, it was apparent from the March 3 recording of an “unlawful” meeting of our city officials, they are in favor of, and wholeheartedly condone such despicable  practices.  What else do they condone and practice without our knowledge?  Had it not been for one of our councilmen who had the INTEGRITY and good sense to make their “SECRET” meeting public, we would not be aware of their true feelings or intentions.  To cap it all off, they are calling for an investigation of the one person who had the nerve to disclose such inexcusable actions. Who needs to investigate who around here? Are these the kind of people who should be making decisions on spending $ 12.5 million of OUR tax dollars, or any other decisions for that matter.  What if some other citizens disagree with our present elected officials? Are we to expect the same kind of RETALIATION that our council so openly, and by their own admission, defends. In talking with other voters about this issue, there would be many more letters of this nature, were it not for their fear of RETALIATION.  What kind of unethical conduct and atmosphere have we allowed to creep into OUR local government! Does the fact that our city council “Took No Action” send a message of weak leadership and encourage a culture of RETALIATION? If the citizens of our community permit this type of governance, then we have only ourselves to blame. You may be next!
