MILLEDGEVILLE — I find it amusing to read some of the letters to the editor regarding the issue of unification of city and county governments. Assertions are made regarding costs, effectiveness and alleged political agendas that are clearly based only on the writer’s feelings and not at all on any supporting data. I can appreciate the writer’s apprehension regarding change. It is certainly a normal reaction. On the other hand, educating oneself on the impact of proposed change, both positive and negative aspects, is an indicator of thoughtful analysis. Further, it is mean spirited and certainly less than enlightened to question the motives of those who are involved with unification. Cynicism has no place in informed criticism. It is the last refuge of a small mind. One may be a skeptic… but the cynic belongs in the dustpan of lesser intellects.
