Over the past 30 years I have been a regular substitute teacher at Baldwin High School. I was happy to se the Junior ROTC program established at the school. This program has been a real encouragement of discipline in the lives of so many students. I have been honored to substitute in this program several times.
This past Wednesday, March 19, I did not have a teaching assignment. I had the honor and privilege to attend with other friends and relatives (braving the wind and cold) a wonderful ceremony at Baldwin County Stadium. This was the eighth annual Junior ROTC Military Inspection.
I was so proud of these fine young men and women. This has been accomplished under the strong and excelled leadership of Senior Naval Science Instructor Lt. Frank Hernandez, Naval Science Instructor 1st Sgt. Alvin K. Thomas and Naval Science instructor SCPO William R. Broach. They should be commended.
As a United States citizen and Baldwin County resident, I am thankful to God for Baldwin High School Principal Lyn Chandler sensing the need to have this program implemented. In times of so much negativism being written in the newspapers I feel this is something positive that needs to be shouted on the housetops about our future leaders.
