GIBSON — GMC Prep (Region 7-A) was starving for win No. 2 Friday as they traveled to Glascock County to face their longtime rivals.

And they did just that, reenergizing their offense and rolling to an exciting 31-14 win on the road.

The Bulldogs offensive line was spectacular and blew open holes for star backs Donovan Smith and Taylor Payne all night long. Smith had 148 yards and a touchdown, and Payne had 119 yards on five carries and a score.

JT Stevens also added a touchdown dive late in the fourth to seal the win.

Smith would score another touchdown on a 71 yard interception return to spark the defense.

Joseph McCallister added a 23 yard field goal to GMC’s totals, and Drew Sanders converted all his extra points.

GMC’s hard-hitting John Layfield and JT Stevens had big sacks on Glascock in the fourth quarter to preserve the win.

“That stopped them and we took the ball back and scored there at the end on JT’s dive,” said Owens. “Defensively, it was a great effort across the board.”

Stevens led all tacklers with nine and two for loss. McCallister was second with seven tackles.

“We just made up our minds that we were going to play ‘smash mouth’ football. There was great effort across the board blocking by our wide receivers and line,” said Owens. “The team is starting to believe in what we’re doing. They are really making progress and will be ready for Hebron.”

The Bulldogs will next face Hebron Christian away Oct. 10.

They will face North Paulding Nov. 6 at home.
