Junior Deputy Camp registration under way

MILLEDGEVILLE — Registration is under way for the 2012 Junior Deputy Camp conducted through the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.

The camp will be held June 4 through June 9 and will be a half-day camp.

Deputy Jason Simmons is a school resource officer and also serves as camp coordinator. He said the camp is open to students in Baldwin County ages 5 through 11.

Simmons said the applications are available at area elementary schools and at the sheriff’s office.

The camp is an opportunity for children and law enforcement officers to form positive and lasting relationships. A major component to the program is to learn more about public and personal safety. Simmons said the camp will repeat many of the successful aspects from last year’s camp.

The 2012 camp will be held at the GNETS of Oconee school, located at 1300 Orchard Hill Road beginning at 8 a.m.

The camp’s capacity sits at around 200 students. Simmons said the limited space places more importance on registration.

Each camper pays $10 and receives a T-shirt in addition to the camp experience. Breakfast and lunch will be served each day thanks to a partnership with the Baldwin County Board of Education.

Campers will hear from representatives of organizations including the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Georgia Power, Georgia Forrestry and the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.

For more information, call the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office at (478) 445-4893.
