As life speeds up then slows during the holiday season, the work of cat and dog rescue group Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF), continues without a break. The group is hoping that several opportunities for community members to show their support will continue to fund the private animal adoption group that has placed thousands of cats and dogs throughout its 26-year history.

This holiday season, ARF is offering multiple ways for contributors to support the organization and pick up a few gifts as well. Currently, ARF is selling raffle tickets for a cash drawing.

“This is a great fundraiser for ARF and some lucky person is going to win $500 just in time for their holiday shopping,” ARF President Bobbie Thompson said.

The winner will receive $500 or 20 percent of the total raise if less than 40 tickets are sold. Tickets are $25 each. The winning ticket will be drawn Dec. 1 at ARF.

ARF is also offering its second holiday ornament this year. The ornament features a cat and a dog on a red or green ball. The cost of the ornament is $8.

The annual ARF calendar is also ready for 2010. The calendar features ARF cats and dogs on the cover and other local pets inside. The calendars are available for $15 and can be purchased at ARF, Animal Hospital of Milledgeville, Lakeside Veterinary Clinic, Michaela’s Hallmark, Petopia, Serenity Spa and The Museum Store at the Old Governor’s Mansion.

ARF also places a Santa Paws Wish Tree at Milledgeville Mall along with a smaller version at ARF. The tree contains items that let people know what the organization needs and allows them to donate items at their discretion or to donate money to the organization.

“The Wish Tree has always been a great success for us,” Thompson said.

ARF volunteers will also operate a kiosk at Milledgeville Mall every Saturday until Christmas selling ARF items including long-sleeve t-shirts, ornaments, calendars, koozies and magnets.

For more information about holiday fundraisers through ARF, call (478) 454-1273 or e-mail ARF at info@animalrescuefoundation.org.

“We have something for everyone and our items are great gifts,” Thompson said.
