With the sky-high gas prices, rising food costs, and the overall state of the economy, one local group plans to help those struggling financially by inviting them to a yard sale — a money-less yard sale.
The Women’s Ministry at Victory Baptist Church is sponsoring the Oct. 18 event at the church, located at 107 Sinclair Marina Road.
“Everybody’s strained right now, and we’re just trying to help everybody out,” Amy Mimes, event organizer, said.
A flyer for the event advertises tables of gently used family clothing, shoes, toys, home furnishings and sporting goods. Items will be provided with love for free through the community ministries of Victory Baptist Church, according to the flyer.
Members of the Women’s Ministry hope the event will help those in need, and they will present each “shopper” with a large shopping bag donated by J.C. Penney to fill up and anyone in need is invited to stop by.
“Come on through and pick up anything you need. Everything is free,” Mimes said. “We won’t really have any large furniture, but we will have clothing, small appliances, shoes and sporting goods, typical yard sale items.”
The church is readying for a move to its new campus, currently under construction on Meriweather Road. The new location should be ready sometime before the end of the year.
The whole church is taking part in the event, and members hopes that people in the community are the ones to benefit.
“We’ve asked people to donate gently used items and clean clothes. We’re hoping that we have nothing left to pack up,” Mimes said.
