The game of bingo is a simple but lucky one. With numbers still left to be covered, these cards were among many that found themselves without a winner.

Frequent player Marie Schneider carefully watches for selected numbers during a recent game of bingo at the American Legion Post 6 headquarters off Old Log Cabin Road. Schneider frequently plays up to 20 cards at a time during one round.

BINGO!
American Legion gives opportunity for fun, winning money

Alexander Cain

Just outside the Milledgeville city limit on the corner of Log Cabin Road and Hudson Drive lies a small, nondescript building that passing drivers may only notice for a moment with a glance into their rear-view mirrors.

Inside lies a world where the definition of B-4 means more than just a past event, and I-20 has an off ramp that could lead to money in your pocket.

Every Monday around 6 p.m., residents of Baldwin and surrounding counties converge inside one of the larger rooms of American Legion Post 6 to chat about the weather and discover how life has changed for each in seven days.

As the clock nears seven, players like Milledgeville resident James H. Snow eagerly await the sounds of ping-pong-sized balls bouncing and the call of the numbers and letters they’ve come there to find.

Welcome to the world of bingo, where for a mere $20 you get two-and-a-half hours of letters, numbers, and — more importantly — a night full of fun and winnings.
