MILLEDGEVILLE —  

Pure Chiropractic Lake Oconee and Pure Chiropractic Milledgeville are collecting canned goods to benefit the less fortunate until Nov. 21. Everyone who donates five or more canned goods will receive a complete spinal exam. For more information, contact (478) 457-0003 (706) 485-1010.

The Baldwin County Fire Rescue is collecting toys for their third annual Kids-Yule-Love Toy Drive. Toys collected will be distributed to local children. Any business that would like to participate as a drop point for the public, or would like to do an employee collection, please contact the Baldwin County Fire Head Quarters at (478) 445-4421. The toys will be distributed by the Department of Family and Children Services to families that apply for Christmas Assistance. The follow stations will be drop points: Allen Memorial Drive, Central State Hospital campus, Carr Station Road, Highway 22 and Lovers Lane and Log Cabin Road.

An event benefiting Michael Barfield will take place at Ivey Tire, 900 N. Jefferson St., on Nov. 10. Recycle for Michael is meant to assist Barfield after he was injured in an accident. Flu vaccines are now available at the Baldwin County Health Department. They will offer both the traditional flu shot and Flu Mist, which is a nasal spray. Vaccines will cost $25 but are available at no charge to those on Medicaid, Peachcare, Wellcare, Amerigroup, Medicare Part B, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia or a State Benefit Plan through United Healthcare or Cigna. Flu vaccines will also be offered in the schools this year. Parents will receive permission slips from their child’s school in the coming weeks.

Thursday, Nov. 8

10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Harriet's Closet, a free supply closet to help fill the needs of cancer patients, is open. The nonprofit organization dedicated to helping cancer patients in Central Georgia has relocated next door to Georgia Cancer Specialists building at Oconee Regional Medical Center. 11:45 a.m.: The Civitan Club of Baldwin County meets 2nd and 4th Thursdays at the Golden Corral. Civitan's main thrust worldwide is helping the physically and/or mentally challenged. Noon to 3 p.m.: The Georgia Military College Chapter of PTK will host a yard sale to support Relay for Life in front of the GMC Library. 

Noon: The Rotary meets at the Country Club.

Noon: The Eatonton Kiwanis Club meets at Central Georgia Tech on the James Marshall bypass.

1 p.m.: The Eatonton Duplicate Bridge Club, an official member of the American Contract Bridge League, meets at the Eatonton Performing Arts Center at Madison Avenue in Eatonton. Come with a partner or e-mail Pat Turney at turney@plantationcable.net for a possible partner match.

2 to 5 p.m.: Free HIV testing at 900 Barrows Ferry Road. (478) 445-5518. 

3:30 to 6:30 p.m.: Digital Bridges Open Computer Clinic is open in the Knight Community Innovation Center, 127 W. Hancock St. Work station availability is limited. The clinic is designed to teach basic skills to adult beginning computer users. Participants may come with specific questions or for general knowledge. 4 p.m.: The Baldwin County Board of Registrars will have their monthly meeting in Room 104 of the Baldwin County Courthouse. The meeting is open to the public.

5:00 p.m.: The Historic Preservation Commission meets at City Hall.

5:30 p.m.: The Baldwin Christian Learning Center holds its monthly meeting at Hope Lutheran Church.

5:30 p.m.: American Legion Morris-Little Post 6 meets at 231 Log Cabin Rd. at 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. for a meal followed by a Guest Speaker and Business meeting. All members are encouraged to attend. For more information call John W. Griffin, Post 6 Commander at (478) 453-0295.

7 p.m.: The Veterans of Foreign Wars and Ladies Auxiliary of Post 6686 in Eatonton meets at the Post home, 793 Monticello Road. Dinner is provided and is followed by the meeting.

7 p.m.: The Sons of Confederate Veterans Old Capital Camp 688 meet at the Milledgeville County Club. A buffet dinner is served with a program to follow. (478) 452-6633.
