MILLEDGEVILLE — The Old Governor’s Mansion will feature Civil War era exhibits and lectures throughout October and November. “What We Wore on our Heads: An Exhibition of Civil War Era Headwear” will be on display until Nov. 2. “Lincoln: the Constitution and the Civil War” will be on display until Nov. 15. “Out the Change the World: The Life and Works of John Oliver Killins” will be featured at the Sallie Ellis Davis House from Oct. 30.

Tri-County EMC is hosting a design contest until Nov. 8 for its 2013 Christmas Card. Students grades Kindergarten through fifth who live in a household served by Tri-County EMC may enter. For more information visit www.tri-countyemc.com.

Allied Arts will host the exhibition Speaking Highly of the South by Stan Strickland until Nov. 15.

GMC will host a canned food drive for Make A Difference Day Oct. 26.

Toomsboro Kids’ Club is sponsoring a city-wide yardsale in Toomsboro Oct. 26 from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. in downtown Toomsboro.

The GMC President’s Parade will be held Oct. 27 at 2 p.m.

The Julia Tarter Memorial 5K Race & 1 Mile Fun Run will be held at the Oconee River Greenway. The run is in memory of Julia Tarter, a Young Life Leader and Georgia College student who passed away in an accident two months ago.

A Harvest Festival and Petting Zoo will be held on Oct. 27 starting at 9:45 a.m. at New Vision COGIC, 941 Dunlap Road. There will be food and prizes.

ORMC and the American Cancer Society are offering free smoking cessation classes Oct. 29 and Nov. 5 and 12 from 7:30-8:30 p.m. in the Education Center. Call 477-454-3705 to register.

Baldwin High School will present the Haunted Nature Trail Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. at the Baldwin High Nature Trail. The event is $5 per person. For more details contact Pam Howard at 478-453-6429.

Saturday, Oct. 26

9 a.m.: A yoga class taught by Xan Nichols is held at the Oconee River Greenway. Bring a yoga mat and/or towel as well as bug spray. All ages welcome. $3/1 hour session.

9 a.m.-noon: The Greenway Farmers Market is held at the Oconee River Greenway, Highway 22 East.



Monday, Oct. 28

Noon: Baldwin County Commission will hear an update on the Convention and Visitors Bureau at the CVB.

Noon-4 p.m.: Harriet's Closet, a free supply closet to help fill the needs of cancer patients, is open. The nonprofit organization dedicated to helping cancer patients in Central Georgia has relocated next door to Georgia Cancer Specialists building at Oconee Regional Medical Center. 5:30 p.m.: Milledgeville-Baldwin County Development Authority meets in the Chamber of Commerce boardroom.

6 p.m.: The Mourning After bereavement group, sponsored by Hospice Care Options, is held in the Hospice Care Options Conference Room located at 811 N. Cobb St. The event is free and open to the public. 478-453-8572.

6 p.m.: Survivors of Suicide meet at River Edge Behavioral Center on Blandy Road (just past Flooring America on the left). For more information call Leanne Branch 478-451-2740.

7-9 p.m.: A community bike project will be held at the Milledgeville Fire Department on West Thomas St. Bikes will be repaired by volunteers and given to those in greatest need in the community. The event is co-sponsored by Milledgeville Cares Inc. and the Milledgeville Fire Department. Donations of all usable bikes and bike parts will be accepted at the station on Thomas Street any time. High school age and adult volunteers are needed to repair bikes. Adam Heagy of Oconee Outfitters will teach the class. Tools will be provided or available at cost for individual's kits (optional).
