MILLEDGEVILLE — Come to Old Clinton and take a step back in time on May 4 and 5, when re-enactors from the Southeast recreate the Battles of Sunshine Church and Griswoldville in 1864 during Sherman’s March to the Sea. The entire event takes place in the Old Clinton Historic District, which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Self-guided walking tour information will be available. Crafts of the era will be demonstrated; “modern” arts and crafts will also be available for purchase; and “modern” as well as food of the period will be served. Saturday’s program will conclude at 8:05 p.m. with the 16th Georgia, Company G, Jackson Rifles, CSA conducting a memorial service in the Old Clinton Cemetery to honor Clinton’s Confederate dead. Gates open at 9 a.m. with the Battle at 2:05 p.m. each day. Admission/Contribution each day: Adults - $5; Students 18 and under $3; Children under 6 – Free. Memorial service – Free. If you are interested in becoming a Foster or Adoptive parent, IMPACT pre-service training classes will be held on May 4 and 11. Classes will be held at Jones County DFCS, 141 James Street, Gray, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The class is free and is available for families from Baldwin, Jones, Putnam, Twiggs and Wilkinson Counties. Georgia College Department of Theatre and the Goodrich Hillel present a Holocaust Exhibit entitled Visas for Life: Righteous Diplomats which premiered at the United Nations. The exhibit will be shown at Georgia College in memory of Jacob Goldstein, a local citizen, who was a Holocaust liberator. The exhibit will be held on the Georgia College campus at the Wooten-Garner House ArtFix Gallery, 131 S. Clarke St. The exhibit runs from May 10 through May 22: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or by request at 478-445-4572. The exhibit was provided by the Consulate General of Israel to the Southeast and the Consulate General of Israel in New York due to the work of former Executive Director of the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust Sylvia Wygoda.



Thursday, May 2

10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Harriet's Closet, a free supply closet to help fill the needs of cancer patients, is open. The nonprofit organization dedicated to helping cancer patients in Central Georgia has relocated next door to Georgia Cancer Specialists building at Oconee Regional Medical Center. Noon: The Rotary meets at the Country Club.

Noon: The Eatonton Kiwanis Club meets at Central Georgia Tech on the James Marshall bypass.

3 p.m.: The Baldwin County Board of Assessors meets in the Baldwin County Courthouse in Rm. 104.

3 to 5 p.m.: Digital Bridges Open Computer Clinic is open in the Knight Community Innovation Center, 127 W. Hancock St. Work station availability is limited. The clinic is designed to teach basic skills to adult beginning computer users. Participants may come with specific questions or for general knowledge. 4:30 p.m.: The Baldwin County Chapter of the Fort Valley State Alumni Association meets at the public service building at the Milledgeville Police Department.

6:30 p.m.: The Milledgeville Area Patriots meet at Victory Baptist Church on Meriwether Road. The meeting is open to the public.

7 p.m.: The Milledgeville Lions Club meets at the Golden Corral on North Columbia Street.
