MILLEDGEVILLE — Flu vaccines are now available at the Baldwin County Health Department. They will offer both the traditional flu shot and Flu Mist, which is a nasal spray. Vaccines will cost $25 but are available at no charge to those on Medicaid, Peachcare, Wellcare, Amerigroup, Medicare Part B, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia or a State Benefit Plan through United Healthcare or Cigna. Flu vaccines will also be offered in the schools this year. Parents will receive permission slips from their child’s school in the coming weeks.

The Milledgeville-Baldwin County Chamber presents Eggs & Issues “The State of Education” from 7:45 to 9 a.m. Oct. 30 at Crockett’s Family Restaurant on North Columbia Street. Baldwin County Board of Education Superintendent Geneva Braziel will present “The State of Education” sharing the successes and challenges of our public school system. This session will also provide a forum to address the impact on our business community and identify partnership opportunities. Tickets cost $10 each or $75 for a table of eight; seating is limited. Thursday, Oct. 18

8:30 a.m.: The Milledgeville-Baldwin County Chamber of Commerce Full Board meets in the Chamber Boardroom at 130 S. Jefferson St.

10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Harriet’s Closet, a free supply closet to help fill the needs of cancer patients, is open. The nonprofit organization dedicated to helping cancer patients in Central Georgia has relocated next door to Georgia Cancer Specialists building at Oconee Regional Medical Center. Noon: The Rotary meets at the Country Club.

Noon: The Eatonton Kiwanis Club meets at Central Georgia Tech on the James Marshall bypass.

1 p.m.: The Eatonton Duplicate Bridge Club, an official member of the American Contract Bridge League, meets at the Eatonton Performing Arts Center at Madison Avenue in Eatonton. Come with a partner or e-mail Pat Turney at turney@plantationcable.net for a possible partner match.

2 p.m.: Learning In Retirement will host their Book Club at First Presbyterian Church, 210 S. Wayne St.

3 p.m.: Learning in Retirement Writers’ Group will host Mr. Joshua Kitchens for a discussion on his duties as the Archivist of the Special Collections Department of Georgia College and State University Library and Instructional Technology Center. He will explain the universities project to record the history of Middle Georgia. The meeting will be held at the First Presbyterian Church.

3:30 to 6:30 p.m.: Digital Bridges Open Computer Clinic is open in the Knight Community Innovation Center, 127 W. Hancock St. Work station availability is limited. The clinic is designed to teach basic skills to adult beginning computer users. Participants may come with specific questions or for general knowledge. 5:30 to 7 p.m.: The Milledgeville-Baldwin County Chamber of Commerce hosts Business After Hours. Call (478) 453-9311 for the location.

6:30 p.m.: The John Milledge Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution, meet at the Milledgeville Country Club.

7 p.m.: The Milledgeville Lions Club meets at the Golden Corral on North Columbia Street.

7:30 p.m.: Bingo is held at the American Legion Post 523 on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Refreshments will be sold. (478) 452-1611.

Friday, Oct. 19

GMC will host its Alumni Weekend at the Milledgeville campus. Some of the weekend’s events include a golf tournament; a dance with entertainment by “The Grapevine;” the presentation of the 2012 Alumni Awards during the Alumni Parade featuring the 134th Corps of Cadets with guest speaker Dr. George Coletti; a groundbreaking ceremony for GMC’s new Health and Wellness Center; a concert featuring Mac Frampton and his band performing “Yesterday Once More;” and several opportunities for tours of GMC’s campus. 12:30 p.m.: Learning In Retirement will host a Lunch & Learn at Milledgeville Country Club. Poet Laureate of Georgia, Judson Mitcham, will be the featured speaker and the public is invited to attend. Tickets are $15 and must be purchased by Friday, Oct. 12. Checks should be made out to LIR-GC&SU.
