GMC will host its Alumni Weekend at the Milledgeville campus. Some of the weekend’s events include a golf tournament; a dance with entertainment by “The Grapevine;” the presentation of the 2012 Alumni Awards during the Alumni Parade featuring the 134th Corps of Cadets with guest speaker Dr. George Coletti; a groundbreaking ceremony for GMC’s new Health and Wellness Center; a concert featuring Mac Frampton and his band performing “Yesterday Once More;” and several opportunities for tours of GMC’s campus. A golf tournament for the Georgia Cancer Support charity will take place at the Milledgeville Country Club. There will be 25 teams of four players each. Anyone has the opportunity to purchase any of the 18 holes for $100 or sponsor a team for $450. Vendors are also able to donate $100 to set up a booth at the event to sell their merchandise. Patrons can enjoy dinner after a $30 donation.
Sunday, Oct. 21
3 p.m.: Yung Mieo and his production crew will visit The Fun Factory! Yung Mieo is a rising music artist from Atlanta. More information about the event will be posted to the Georgia Fun Factory Facebook page.
6:30 p.m.: American Legion Auxiliary Post 523 meets at 430 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. All members are urged to attend.
Monday, Oct. 22
11 a.m to 3 p.m..: “Survivors in Pink” and their club “Faith, Hope, and Love” will host “Bras for a Cause” on GC front campus to raise funds for the program. The bras will be decorated by students and turned in, each submission costing $15. They will then be put on display and everyone is welcome to come vote for their favorite, a single vote costs $1. The funds will go toward a banquet to honor survivors in late October.
Noon to 4 p.m.: Harriet’s Closet, a free supply closet to help fill the needs of cancer patients, is open. The nonprofit organization dedicated to helping cancer patients in Central Georgia has relocated next door to Georgia Cancer Specialists building at Oconee Regional Medical Center. 1 to 3 p.m.: Mary Vinson Memorial Library and Digital Bridges host an Open Computer Clinic at the Library. The clinic is designed to teach basic skills to adult beginning computer users. 5:30 p.m.: Milledgeville-Baldwin County Development Authority meets in the Chamber of Commerce office.
6 p.m.: Survivors of Suicide meet at River Edge Behavioral Center on Blandy Road (just past Flooring America on the left). For more information call Leanne Branch (478) 451-2740.
7 to 9 p.m.: A community bike project will be held at the Milledgeville Fire Department on W. Thomas St.. Bikes will be repaired by volunteers and given to those in greatest need in the community. The event is co-sponsored by Milledgeville Cares, Inc. and the Milledgeville Fire Department. Donations of all usable bikes and bike parts will be accepted at the station on Thomas Street any time. High school age and adult volunteers are needed to repair bikes. Adam Heagy of Oconee Outfitters will teach the class. Tools will be provided or available at cost for individual's kits (optional).
