MILLEDGEVILLE — The Baldwin County Fire Rescue will kick off their third annual Kids-Yule-Love Toy Drive on Nov. 1. Toys collected will be distributed to local children. Any business that would like to participate as a drop point for the public, or would like to do an employee collection, please contact the Baldwin County Fire Head Quarters at (478) 445-4421. The toys will be distributed by the Department of Family and Children Services to families that apply for Christmas Assistance. The follow stations will be drop points: Allen Memorial Drive, Central State Hospital campus, Carr Station Road, Highway 22 and Lovers Lane and Log Cabin Road.

An event benefiting Michael Barfield will take place at Ivey Tire, 900 N. Jefferson St., on Nov. 10. Recycle for Michael is meant to assist Barfield after he was injured in an accident. Flu vaccines are now available at the Baldwin County Health Department. They will offer both the traditional flu shot and Flu Mist, which is a nasal spray. Vaccines will cost $25 but are available at no charge to those on Medicaid, Peachcare, Wellcare, Amerigroup, Medicare Part B, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia or a State Benefit Plan through United Healthcare or Cigna. Flu vaccines will also be offered in the schools this year. Parents will receive permission slips from their child’s school in the coming weeks.

Saturday, Nov. 3

7:30 a.m.: The Big Dam Run will begin registration. The event is to assist The Empty Stocking Fund. The run will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will be timed by Macon Trax Running Club. The 5K begins at the Milledgeville Country Club and goes to the Lake Sinclair Dam and back. The first 72 runners receive a Big Dam Run T-shirt. Registration is $20. 9 a.m.: Elkettes Eatonton Lodge No. 2549, located across from Haband, will host a Family Turkey Shoot. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. The Elks will serve to-go plates of barbecue chicken for $8 starting at 11 a.m. For more information, contact (706) 485-8606.

9 a.m.: Yoga at the Greenway every Saturday morning. Bring a yoga mat and/or towel. All ages welcome. A $1 to $5 donation is appreciated. For more information, call (478) 973-9767.

9 a.m. to noon: The Fall Line Farmers Market is now open every Saturday morning in the parking lot behind First Presbyterian Church, 210 S. Wayne Street rain or shine. More than a dozen middle-Georgia farmers and producers who live in a 100-mile radius of Milledgeville sell a wide selection of naturally grown, seasonal vegetables; grass-fed beef and lamb; heritage breed pork; free-range eggs; hormone-free dairy products including butter and yogurt; artisan bread and cheese; local honey and preserves; baked goods including specialty cakes; perennial plants and more. Come sample, browse and take advantage of the opportunity to meet and talk with folks who are passionate about providing locally grown, delicious food. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Gordon Woman’s Club will host a flea market and cafe at 110 College St., Gordon. There will be Christmas decorations, children’s toys, Christmas gifts and more. The Corner Cafe will be open and there will be homemade barbecue, cakes and other food.

3 p.m.: The Readers Book Club meets at Blackbird Coffee downtown to discuss its current selection. Be prepared to suggest or vote on a book for the group to read. The club is free and open to the community.

7:30 to 10:30 p.m.: Ballroom Dancing held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Flannery O’Connor Hall at 110 N. Jefferson St. Admission is $5. Dancers of all levels gather monthly at this alcohol and smoke-free event. For more information contact Carol Melder at (478) 453-3345.
