Oconee Regional Healthcare Foundation's Samuel M. Goodrich, MD, Endowed Healthcare Scholarship is now accepting applications for the 2013-2014 academic year. Application packets have been sent to area colleges and universities that offer degrees in healthcare fields of study. Scholarships will be made in amounts ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 for the academic year. Applications for the Scholarship Fund can be obtained by visiting www.oconeeregional.com and clicking on the “Foundation” tab.
The Lake Oconee Bible Bee is excited to announce the beginning of the 5th Bible Bee season. Family registration runs from April 1 through May 31, and study materials will be released on June 1. The Lake Oconee Bible Bee will be holding monthly fun family activities in preparation for the local contest, which will be held on August 24 at Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church. The competition challenges youth from ages seven to 18 years in Bible knowledge and memorization first at local contests held around the country at the end of August, and then at a National Competition held in November for the top 300 contestants from across the nation. 8 a.m.: The 100 Black Men of Milledgeville and Baldwin County meet at the Baldwin County Recreation Center on Highway 22. Mentees meet at 10 a.m.
8 a.m.: Yoga at the Greenway has moved indoors to Blackbird Coffee. Bring a yoga mat and/or towel. All ages welcome. $3/1 hour session.
9 a.m. to noon: The Greenway Farmers Market is held at the Oconee River Greenway, Highway 22 West.
9 a.m. to 2 p.m.: The Oconee Regional Chapter of Project Linus meets in the Education Center of Park Tower at Oconee Regional Medical Center. The Chapter is open to anyone who wants to provide needy children with a comforting blanket. Attendees should bring their lunch.
10 a.m.: The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office will hold a Four Wheeler and Dirt Bike event to support the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life. The line up will start at Patrick Williams’ property, 342 Williams Road, Sparta (across from Sally’s Corner, Highway 22). The cost is $15 per driver and $7 per passenger. Noon to 5 p.m.: The sixth annual Fun Day for Kids, sponsored by Tracy Harper Productions along with Butler Ford and Flipper Chapel AME Church, will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 11. Admission is free. Prizes will be given away along with scholarships for area students. There will also be a car given away to one area student.
