MILLEDGEVILLE — The Lake Country Beekeepers Association will conduct a beekeeping short course Jan. 25 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. in Sparta at the Hancock County Extension Service, 12534 Augusta Highway. AARP Foundation TaxAide volunteers will be in the area from Feb. 2 through April 15. To apply visit www.aarp.org/taxaide.

Through a strategic partnership with the Development Authority of Milledgeville-Baldwin County, along with other key stakeholders including local governing bodies, colleges and the hospital, are helping to lead an effort to create a new community vision and strategic plan. The goal is to develop a shared vision for the local community, with identifiable action items that we can work toward implementing that will lead to more jobs in the community. Community input through the online survey is a critical component necessary to provide the foundation of the plan and benchmarks for planning the future.  Local residents are encouraged to log onto milledgevillega.com and share their thoughts on community actions and services. Survey respondents can enter to win one of five $50 gift certificates to local Chamber businesses.  

Milledgeville Main Street introduces Downtown Dollars, gift certificates to support local businesses. They can be purchased in denominations of $5 and can be used at more than 30 locations downtown. Creekside Elementary is having a winter coat drive and is collecting new and gently used coats for children’s size six and adult small. Please drop off coats at the Communities in Schools office at Creekside or call the coordinator, Mrs. Specht, at 478-456-3127.

Court Appointed Special Advocates is seeking volunteers for its Fall training. If interested call 478-452-9170, visit ocmulgeecasa.org or contact Lori Muggridge at ocasalm@baldwin.k12.ga.us.
