MILLEDGEVILLE — Chaplinwood Health & Rehabilitation would like to remind the community that May 11-18 is National Nursing Home Week.

The Milledgeville Lions Club, assisted by Milledgeville fire fighters, will conduct its 29th Fishing for Sight fish-a-thon May 17 from 10 a.m. to noon (with a rain date of May 24). Kids five through 13 will compete for trophies at the Baldwin County Recreation Center’s big pond. Live bait, cane poles and a limited number of buckets will be provided.

DNR will offer free boating safety to all boaters in the Lake Sinclair area. Classes will be held at the Sinclair Marina, 170 Sinclair Marina Road, 478-451-0167. The seventh annual Family Fun Day presented by Tracy Harper Productions will be held May 31 from noon to 5 p.m. at the Pecan Grove at Central State Hospital. The event will have free food and drinks as well as free games. There will also be a waterslide, a clown and music. Prizes will be given away. For information contact Tracy Harper 478-454-7556.

The YES Program is taking applications for the Baldwin High School Summer YES Program (June 2-26, Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-noon) for all rising ninth grade students. Applications are available at the front office of Baldwin High School or by e-mailing julie.cook@gcsu.edu. Enrollment is limited. No transportation will be provided.



Tuesday, May 13

10:30 a.m.: A Senior Olympic badminton club will be held at the Baldwin County Recreation Department gym.

11 a.m.-1 p.m.: Cafe Central is open every Tuesday at Freedom Church in Milledgeville. A free meal will be served to everyone who comes. For information on volunteering call 478-453-4400.

11 a.m.: The public is invited to attend a weekly meeting at the Collins P. Lee Center at 237 Harrisburg Road to discuss plans for the Lucille Harris Community Garden and Solomon Harris Walking Trail, as well as to hear updates about efforts by the Parks & Recreation Dept., Milledgeville Community Garden Association, Baldwin Family Connection and the Habitat for Humanity Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative. 12:30 p.m.: The Eatonton Duplicate Bridge Club, an official member of the American Contract Bridge League, meets at the Plaza Arts Center, 305 N. Madison Ave. in Eatonton. For more information contact Betty Roper at 706-467-3079.

12:45 p.m.: The Milledgeville Kiwanis Club meets at the Milledgeville Country Club. Visitors are welcome to the program and to lunch with a club sponsor.

4-7 p.m.: The Milledgeville Marketplace Farmers Market is held at 222 E. Hancock St. in downtown Milledgeville at the Market Park Pavilion. Free parking available. Call 478-414-4014 for information.

5:30 p.m.: The Baldwin County Board of Education meets at the board administrative building, 110 N. ABC Drive.

6:30 p.m.: The Mayor and Alderman of the City of Milledgeville will hold a public hearing to hear a request for special use of property located at 110 N. Columbia St., Baldwin County Tax Map M40-121.

6:30 p.m.: The Old Capital Car Club meets at IHOP, 2598 N. Columbia St., for dinner followed by the meeting at 7:30 p.m. All auto enthusiasts are invited to attend. 478-453-7098 or 478-453-0295.
