The Milledgeville Area Tea Party Patriots will honor outgoing chair Tom Main and wife, Maddie Main, at its monthly meeting on Thursday. Main was the first chairman of the group, which was formed three years ago. In recognition of Main’s service to the organization, the public is invited to attend the special reception in his honor. The program begins at 6:30 p.m. The Patriots meet monthly at Victory Baptist Church, 640 Meriwether Road, Milledgeville. 

Ocmulgee Court Appointed Special Advocates is looking for volunteers for its next training session. CASA is a non-profit organization that works with abused and neglected children that have found themselves involved in the court system through no fault of their own. These children need a voice in court and that is the role of CASA to see that these children have an opportunity to have their voices heard and to received services needed. Interested volunteers should contact the CASA office at (478) 452-9170 or visit their website at www.ocmulgeecasa.org.

The City of Milledgeville water department will be conducting maintenance on the 1 million gallon ground storage water tank located on Dunlap Road. The tank will be out of service beginning Jan. 29 and will remain out of service for approximately six weeks. This is part of the City's preventive maintenance program to ensure a high quality of drinking water for our customers. Customers in this area may experience low water pressure and/or discoloured water. If you experience this please contact the Water and Sewer office at (478) 414-4052.

Flu vaccines are now available at the Baldwin County Health Department. They will offer both the traditional flu shot and Flu Mist, which is a nasal spray. Vaccines will cost $25 but are available at no charge to those on Medicaid, Peachcare, Wellcare, Amerigroup, Medicare Part B, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia or a State Benefit Plan through United Healthcare or Cigna.



Thursday, Feb. 7

10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Harriet's Closet, a free supply closet to help fill the needs of cancer patients, is open. The nonprofit organization dedicated to helping cancer patients in Central Georgia has relocated next door to Georgia Cancer Specialists building at Oconee Regional Medical Center. Noon: The Rotary meets at the Country Club.

Noon: The Eatonton Kiwanis Club meets at Central Georgia Tech on the James Marshall bypass.

1 p.m.: The Eatonton Duplicate Bridge Club, an official member of the American Contract Bridge League, meets at the Eatonton Performing Arts Center at Madison Avenue in Eatonton. Come with a partner or e-mail Pat Turney at turney@plantationcable.net for a possible partner match.

2 to 5 p.m.: Free HIV testing at 900 Barrows Ferry Road. (478) 445-5518.

3 to 5 p.m.: Digital Bridges Open Computer Clinic is open in the Knight Community Innovation Center, 127 W. Hancock St. Work station availability is limited. The clinic is designed to teach basic skills to adult beginning computer users. Participants may come with specific questions or for general knowledge. 3:30 p.m.: Mary Vinson Memorial Library, 151 S. Jefferson St., will host a Teen Movie Night (middle and high school students). The movie will be “The Last Song” (rated PG). For more information, contact Dabney Kinser at (478) 452-0677 ext. 127.

4:30 p.m.: The Baldwin County Chapter of the Fort Valley State Alumni Association meets at the public service building at the Milledgeville Police Department.

6:30 p.m.: The Milledgeville Area Patriots meet at Victory Baptist Church on Meriweather Road. The meeting is open to the public.

7 p.m.: The Milledgeville Lions Club meets at the Golden Corral on North Columbia Street.

7:30 p.m.: Bingo is held at the American Legion Post 523 on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Refreshments will be sold. (478) 452-1611.

7:30 p.m.: Lake Country Twirlers is a square dance club that meets at the Harmony Association Building on Highway 44. Everyone is invited to come by, meet members, enjoy refreshments and see what fun square dancing can be. For more information, call (706) 468-5090.
