Local salons are asked to donate $1 to Radiation Vacation from every haircut on April 13 and 14 or dates selected by the salon. The mission is to improve the quality-of-life for families that have a child receiving radiation in the Atlanta and Middle Georgia area by offering recreational activities and offering emotional and educational support. The initiative, known as “Blessing of the Birds,” began in the spring of 2009 with a sweet 7-year-old girl named Holly that was fighting cancer. The loss of Holly's hair was very emotional for both mother and daughter. Each spring the movement celebrates the “Blessing of the Birds” by partnering with hair salons and barbers across Georgia. Executive Director Janice Slavin wants to spread awareness about childhood cancer and raise funds for Radiation Vacation. Visit www.facebook.com/RadiationVacation or call Slavin at 478-365-2061 for participation information.
