MILLEDGEVILLE — As a candidate vying for the Baldwin County District 2 democratic seat, Tommy French, Jr. is encouraging voters to cast their ballots early this week as he challenges incumbent Linda Fussell in the Aug. 21 runoff election.

French and Fussell, seeking a second full term on the board, were unable to garner more than 50 percent of votes during the July 31 general primary election.

Fussell received 34.59 percent (267 votes), taking a lead by one vote against French, who received 34.46 percent (266 votes).

Both candidates were also opposed by challenger John Ross, who obtained 30.96 percent (239 votes). Ross is not eligible to run in the runoff.

A Milledgeville native and 1984 Baldwin High School graduate, French worked for the Georgia Department of Corrections and went on to work at Central State Hospital where he is currently employed.

Early voting will continue at the Baldwin County Courthouse in room 104 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday. Voters who cast their ballot in the District 2 republican primary are excluded from voting in this democratic primary runoff.

Voters will need to bring a valid form of identification, which may include a Georgia driver’s license, a valid voter identification card, a valid United States passport, a government-issued employee identification card, a United States military identification card or a valid tribal identification card. All forms of identification must include a photograph of the voter.

For more information about early voting or voting requirements, call (478) 445-4526 or visit the GaSOS’s website at www.sos.georgia.gov.
