MILLEDGEVILLE — An attempted traffic stop recently turned into a pursuit on foot and a hit and run for Baldwin County Sheriff deputies.

According to an incident report from the sheriff's office, at approximately 11:23 p.m. March 20, while sheriff deputies were conducting a patrol in the area of Milledgeville Manor, they noticed a red Chevrolet Monte Carlo attempt to avoid contact with law enforcement.

The car turned onto South Jefferson Street toward the deputies then onto Barnes Avenue, making a left onto South Edwards Street.

The deputies followed the vehicle onto South Vinson Highway where the car turned into the parking lot of Southwood Mobile Home Park. The 38-year-old driver, later identified by dispatch, jumped from the car and began running.

The Monte Carlo continued to roll and struck another vehicle in its path. The pursuit then turned into a foot chase between trailers. After a short chase, the male driver was taken into custody and received citations for reckless driving, fleeing or attempting to elude, driving while license expired, and hit and run.

State warrants for obstruction of law enforcement officers were also issued.

The following is information compiled from public records taken from reports of the Milledgeville Police Department and the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office. It is our policy to not disclose the names of victims. These reports do not reflect guilt or innocence. An “arrest” does not always indicate incarceration. The charges filed are noted in the narrative.

A store clerk at an Irwinton Road convenience store reported around 2:30 p.m. March 21 that a female drove away without paying for a gas purchase. It was noted that she pumped a total of $14.33 worth of gas then drove off.

Theft by taking

Deputies were called to an Irwinton Road residence in reference to a stolen vehicle March 17. Upon arrival they met with the owner who said when he returned to his residence after visiting a friend, he discovered that his car was missing. He said he last saw the vehicle around 2 a.m. March 15.

Burglary

A man and woman at an Ivey Drive home reported a burglary taking place at their residence March 21. A 60-inch LG flat screen television, $400 in cash and a female pitbull puppy were reported missing from the address.
